Flossie and Grampa became fast friends and we had a lovely visit with him.

She also definitely has a lot of Nevin in her and was REALLY into presents this year! She loved her stocking was so excited to go see under the tree when she woke up. Lots of squeals and pattering feet... The kitchen was a highlight for her and has resulted in many meals and preparations of hot chocolate with her wee Oaxacan molonio (sp?).

We went and got a tree this weekend at the Good Earth organic gardening center. Flossie loved walking through the greenhouse and seeing all the different kinds of plants.

Baby Isa comes to visit

Cara and Isa came to visit this weekend and Floss was, predictably, very excited to see them both.

Isa is thriving and a beautiful, jolly and healthy baby. She and Cara are both glowing and the picture of happy motherhood. My ovaries are going a little wonky in withdrawals now.... :)

Isa got lots of hugs and kisses and was shown every toy that Floss owns.

Our First Snow!

It snowed here yesterday and stuck around for most of the day! Floss got bundled up in her snowsuit and rain boots and ran outside to "slip, slide" as she says. She made a wee snowman with papa and also tasted snow for the first time ! She has decided it is a rare and wonderful treat (the beauty of no sugar!)

The house looks very pretty in the snow with its Christmas wreath from the farmer's market.

Flossie and Maggie were fast friends immediately and Flossie misses her very much now that we're home!

She was so happy to see her cousins once removed! Sam and Maggie made her the sweetest, hand-made gifts designed to teach her animal sounds, babies and colors.

The Galazzi's gave Flossie a hand me down toddler bed today. We set it up in her room with her crib mattress and a feather mattress on top. She also helped me hang up her small, tin Mexican birds on the wall above the new bed (just like Meme and Mumma and daddy) and put her new embroidered pillow case (also from Mexico) on her BIG pillow. When it was time for bed, she climbed right in to read books, then nursed briefly and went to sleep. We are all very excited!

Her name is "Lupe"

We decided to name her Guadalupe and "Lupe for short. She is settling in well and Flossie is absolutely besotted. The other day, as Lupe stretched and reached out her paw with her digits spread wide, Flossie said "Lupe, high five!" and tried to high five her. Lupe has became acquainted with all of Flossie's toys and books and is constantly being offered whatever Floss is eating. Lupe takes a dim view of her wee friend's vegetarian diet though.

Flossie is learning how to treat a cat, which is HARD, since she constantly wants to pet her and stare eyeball to eyeball with her. She is learning that Lupe doesn't like to be chased and that Flossie gets in trouble for being over exuberant with her. It is very hard to teach her how to properly treat a mammal smaller and more vulnerable than herself but we are all learning slowly. In the meantime, Lupe has a very cozy bed in the drawer underneath Flossie's crib where she escapes to.

This past weekend

This weekend started off with Flossie and I dressing up in our super cool headbands. Flossie likes to put on these cotton headbands I got in Barcelona years ago. Only it's not enough for just her to wear one but Will and I also have to be in the club. We try to distract her, hoping she'll lose interest, but she's very insistent that if she's wearing one then we MUST be wearing one also. Hence the unforgettable pictures:)

We then decided to take Mary for a walk (See Flossie holding Mary's hands so that she can "walk").

That evening we went to Water Fire and met up with Emily and Addie. Flossie wore her new Dior, wool sweater (so fancy!!) that we found at a consignment shop that has wool balls hanging off it in decoration. The first thing she said when she put it on, fngering one of the balls on her chest, was "Mama, look! Nipples!"

On Sunday we went to a Harvest festival down in Middletown, RI. Flossie pet animals, got her face painted for the first time and rode in a train that had been made out of oil drums and was pulled by a tractor. She also painted her first pumpkin which is very Pollack.

Washing Rub-A-Dub

Flossie spends many evenings scrubbing my old bath tub doll, Rub-A-Dub, in the tub these days. She's very thorough in her ministrations and cleans her arm pits, nose, eyes, toes and hands saying "There you go!" and being very pleased with herself.

Flossie is actually related to me- despite not looking anything like me! We were walking home from the Cove this afternoon when she saw a squirrel cross the street. She got very excited and reached out her hand, saying "hand" which is what she says when she wants to pet something (we taught her to reach her hand out to dogs when petting them so they can smell her hand first). Then she said, "Want to kiss squirrl", just like her mama would have done when she was little!

Mama- do you remember how old I was when I started saying "Loves me, kiss my face" to animals?

It is really no surprise that she said it- she kisses animals all the time- but it was very sweet to hear it coming out of her little mouth.

The weekend before last we had some friends over for dinner who brought a chocolate cake for dessert. Flossie was allowed to have a tiny, crumb of a piece and thought it was very wonderful. There was no mention of the cake for over a week and then just yesterday she woke up from her nap saying "Mama, I want chocolate cake" as clear as day. Little minx!

The other day we also made clothes finally for the German made dollhouse dolls. Nothing fancy but certainly a more modern style. We were happily surprised to see that the Fraulein cleans up quite nicely.

Flossie also is continuing to be a puzzle whiz! We have a stack of board puzzles that range in difficulty and are for 3+ and Floss does them all effortlessly. It's quite amazing- really! She also does her Florence puzzle from Meme in seconds and can probably do it blindfolded. We're planning to sign her up for the LSATs next.

Flossie of, course, still loves to chill with dad and is starting to get into Sunday football! As much as I'd like to discourage this, I'm very happy that they have common interests!

Last night we gave Rub-A-Dub a bath and decided to comb out her hair. After sporting dreadlocks for nearly 30 years, she now has a fro! Flossie is thrilled with her new style!
